The torus and its use in Brillouin scattering applications
Read these two papers to find out more about how the torus laser can be used in Brillouin scattering applications:
The first paper by G. Scarcelli et. al. demonstrates a label-free microscopy technique of contactless access to biomechanical properties . This technique is based on Brillouin light scattering and the method uses the Laser Quantum torus, a single-longitudinal mode laser. This new method not only makes physical contact obsolete to access these properties, but also increases the resolution onto the order of the wavelength used.

The second article by J. Zhang et. al, uses Brillouin spectroscopy to determine the mechanical properties of material. This paper looks at parallel detection, where the Brillouin shift of hundreds of points can be measured simultaneously. Parallel detection is a major step forward in bringing this technique towards real world acquisition speeds. Brillouin scattering complements Raman spectroscopy as a label-free spectroscopy technique, also being able to work in e.g. an aqueous environment experiment in which the torus laser is used.
