World Company Sport Games – 6th Place in the Road Cycling Competition for Oliver Prochnow
Three days after winning his bronze medal at the National German Company Sport Championships in the road cycling competition, Oliver Prochnow started at the 1st World Company Sport Games in Mallorca. The 4-day event started with an opening ceremony and flag parade on the first night directly in front of the Cathedral of Palma, where nearly all of the 5,000 competitors from over 30 different nationalities came together.
Oliver started the 45 km long race though the mountains of Mallorca with an overall altitude difference of nearly 1,000 m and some challenging downhill sections with speeds of up to 80 km/h.
The race began directly with a 2 km climb of nearly 6-10%. Over the next flat 10 km, the lead group increased the gap from the next chasing group and in the following two 7 km climbs Olli lost contact to the lead group and was in 16th place on the last 10 km. On this part, he was able to catch 5 riders and won the final sprint of the group. In his overall ranking, Olli finished in a remarkable 11th place, which was 6th place in his age group.
Overall, it was a really challenging event and a great experience. The next big event for Olli will be the European Company Sport Games in June 2016, Ghent (Belgium).
