The Chameleon-like material sensation

Scientists at UC Berkeley have created a Chameleon-like material that can change colour when stretched. The super thin silicon, is marked with patterns of ridges to reflect light in a certain way. As the material is stretched the ridges stretch and reflect a different wavelength of light thus reflect a different colour in the process. Changing the structure on the surface enabled the researchers to change the material colour. A key applications could be to show structural fatigue on bridges. The next step is to make a larger prototype. Full article: http://newscenter.berkeley.edu/2015/03/13/chameleon-like-material-changes-color-with-a-twist/
